The Odisha Government has decided to purchase 5,000 tonne of un-milled dal from the Centre in the first phase to sell it after milling and packing at a reasonable price to consumers.
The development came after the Central Government pulled up States to take measures to check the skyrocketing price of pulses.
Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Secretary Madhusudan Padhi said the State would place its demand of 5,000 tonne of dal with the Centre soon.
The State Government would sell the milled/processed dals at a price not exceeding `120 per kg.
Notably, the Central Government has decided to release 10,000 tonne of un-milled Tur dal (Arhar) at a rate of `66 per kg and un-milled Urad dal (Biri) at a rate of `82 to the States for retail distribution.
The Centre has requested State Governments to avail this benefit and utilise the available stocks for managing the prices of pulses.
