State splurging on lawyers to avoid CBI probe: Pyari

The State Government is spending lakhs of rupees from the State exchequer on lawyers to avoid CBI probe into chit-fund scam,” alleged Odisha Jan Morcha (OJM) president Pyarimohan Mohapatra in a Press release on Tuesday.

Mohapatra said the State Government is protecting the fraudsters who cheated poor investors of thousands of crores of rupees promising hefty returns. The Government is also lingering the Crime Branch inquiry process to avoid the CBI probe, he alleged.

“When the gullible investors are repeatedly demanding for CBI probe in the chit-fund fraud case, the State Government, on the other hand, is spending lakhs of rupees on lawyers to avoid it,” said Mohapatra, adding, “The elusive attitude of the State Government raises eyebrow on its transparency.”

The OJM chief said the involvement of Ministers, MlAs and other ruling party leaders has been widely published in the print and electronic media and even a luxurious car of `1 crore was seized from the driver of a ruling party MlA, but no action was taken against the politicians. “If the leaders of the BJD Government are not involved in the scam, why does it fear to recommend CBI probe,” he questioned.

Mohapatra said the State Government has created a corpus fund of `300 crore to refund money of duped investors, but it has remained in pen and paper so far. Now the State Government has been telling that it would refund money after liquidating property of fraudulent companies, but it also remained confined to red tape, he stated.
