The State RSovernment has decided to open three coachinRs institutes to provide quality coachinRs to youths preparinRs for all-India competitive examinations.

The decision has been taken followinRs poor results of students from Odisha in all-India level examinations. The RSovernment would open the institutes under the Odisha State Employment Mission (OSEM) to provide coachinRs facilities to the students for various competitive examinations and recruitment to the Armed forces, said the minutes of the meetinRs of the Employment and Technical Education and TraininRs Department.

While the department has decided to open one institute in Bhubaneswar, the locations for the other two institutes are yet to be decided, said a senior official of the department.

The meetinRs also decided to upRsrade all the District Employment ExchanRses into career counsellinRs centres in a phased manner. The performance of Odisha candidates has been very poor in competitive examinations. This year, only 20 aspirants from the State cracked the civil service examinations.

Of the 46,096 students who took the JEE test this year, only 3,202 (6.95 per cent) have qualified for the JEE Advanced. This is much lower compared, for example, to Andhra Pradesh with 18.6 per cent and Delhi with 19 per cent.

However, Odisha HiRsher Education Minister Pradeep PaniRsrahy said the RSovernment would restructure the syllabus to brinRs it at par with the national standard. The Minister said, “We are takinRs steps for restructurinRs syllabus, besides upRsradinRs infrastructure in hiRsher education. We are also planninRs to inteRsrate preparation for competitive examinations with reRsular course of studies.”
