State likely to promote new industrial sectors

The State Government has reportedly decided to incentivise industrial sectors like aviation manufacturing, maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO), ship building, technical textiles and electronic system designing and manufacturing (ESDM) as investors are showing interest to invest in these sectors.

These sectors come under 21 categories of industries to be included in the proposed Industrial Policy Resolution (IPR)-2015, which is at its final stage now. This time, the Government wants to attract investments in various engineering industries rather than mining and power-based sectors, an office said.

The proposed IPR 2015, which has been formulated with wide consultation with varied stakeholders to make Odisha a destination of choice for the investors worldwide, would be sent to State Cabinet for approval soon.

Officials say the move is on to set up an Industrial Infrastructure Development Fund (IIDF) with an initial corpus of Rs100 crore to meet budgetary gap of concerned departments to provide quality external infrastructure to a industrial cluster or a park.

A new concept of environment protection subsidy for manufacturing units in the MSME sector has been devised, said sources.

To stimulate industrial development and reduce the regional imbalance, the backward districts would be notified in the IPR and packages of incentives would be provided to the investors setting up industries in those areas.

Similarly, the single window system would be strengthened to ensure timely clearances under the new policy, sources said.
