A GPF automation system with push SMS system was launched by Chief Secretary JK Mohapatra in the National Informatics Centre (NIC) premises here on Saturday.

He said the software planned by the Accountant General (AG) Odisha with technical input from NIC, Bhubaneswar is a significant step towards paperless office. This would benefit around two lakh State Government employees whose GPF accounts are being managed by the AG. Government officials can now check their GPF positions online like checking of bank accounts. This would expedite GPF transactions and make the process accurate.

Principal Accountant General Odisha Gargi Kaul said Odisha is the first State to have both the GPF e-statement and SMS push system. She called upon the drawing and disbursing officers (DDOs) to take up e-scheduling in time so that e-statement and push SMS can serve GPF subscribers better.

As per the exiting provisions, the AG office is maintaining the GPF accounts of the employees.Till now, this office is issuing the GPF account statementd to subscribers annually through the DDOs. The employees have to wait till the end of the year to know their GPF positions.

With launching of the new system, employees can instantly check their balance positions and bring omissions/ mistakes to the notice of AG for settlement. The system was launched in the official website  http://www.agodisha.gov.in. It also provides registration of mobile numbers of subscribers through which they can get their monthly updates via SMS as soon as subscription or withdrawal is posted in their accounts.

The subscribers have to get their initial registration done through their respective DDOs.Additional Chief Secretary Finance UN Behera and NIC Deputy Director General SK Panda and Technical Director RN Behera spoke on different technical dimensions of the system.
