There are over 22 lakh registered vehicles in the State which are more than 15 years old, informed Commerce & Transport Minister Padmanabha Behera in the State Assembly on Thursday.
Out of the 22,09,573 vehicles older than 15 years, as many as 11,43,026 are plying on roads after enforcement of the amended MV Act in the State, he stated while replying to a question by BJP member Mohan Majhi.
The Minister also informed that a total of 18,683 persons have died in road mishaps in the past four years.
Revealing the death toll, Behera said that 4,463 deaths due to road accidents were reported in 2016 and 4,790 deaths in 2017 while 5,315 persons were killed in 2018. And the road mishaps have claimed around 4,115 lives till September 2019, he said.
