The Opposition Congress and the BJP on Wednesday held the State Government responsible for the death of the minor tribal girl of Kunduli in Koraput district, who was allegedly gangraped by a group of security force personnel on October 10, 2017.

State BJP general secretary Prithviraj Harichandan said the State Government is liable for the suicide of the girl and a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe can reveal the truth behind the incident.

Addressing a Press conference, PCC president Prasad Harichandan said while the BJP is responsible for rape of the girl, the BJD liable for her suicide.

“The Chief Minister, who is also the Home Minister, couldn’t provide justice to the minor girl for which she committed suicide. He should resign on moral grounds. The BJP was silent till the girl’s death as she was raped by Central police. Hence, the saffron party was responsible for rape of the victim,” alleged Harichandan.

Alleging that police are acting in favour of the BJD, he demanded immediate arrest of all the culprits. He said the PCC would create a fund to provide monetary support to the deceased’s family.

Reacting to the bandh, BJD spokesperson Pratap Keshari Deb said the opposition parties are politicising the issue. “The State Government has ordered for a judicial probe. Besides, the Crime Branch is also conducting an enquiry. But the Opposition parties are politicising it,” said Deb.
