The BJP Mahila Morcha on Saturday submitted a memorandum to Governor Professor Ganeshi lal alleging that the State Government has failed to protect women while incidences of rapes, particularly sexual assault on minor girls, are on the rise in the State.
“The number of sexual assaults on minor girls is increasing by the day. While rise in such incidents has been a matter of headache for people, the State Government is providing protection to accused persons,” alleged the Morcha.
A team comprising former Minister Surama Padhi, former MP Sangita Singh Deo, party’s State president Sukeshi Oram and Mahila Morcha vice-presidents Kananbala Patnaik and Dr Aiswarya Biswal met the Governor and handed over the memorandum.
They alleged that Mahila and Shishu desks are not operating at all. Police are not accepting FIRs against rape accused and abusing those who go to lodge complaints.
“Police undertook a ‘Paree Rath’ rally to cover up its failures. Girls should be behaved as human beings but not as ‘Pari’,” remarked the members.
They demanded that police act as friendly to women and girls and provide protection to them.
