State Govt failed in flood mgmt: BJP

The BJP on Sunday held the State Government responsible for flood “mismanagement” and its failure in reaching out to the affected people even four days after the flood.

The party alleged that the State Government has failed in flood control and flood management, while people are now living with uncertainties. Even getting minimum food has become difficult for them, it charged.  In a Press conference State general secretary Prithwiraj Harichandan alleged that the Government which is in power for last 22 years has utterly failed to respond to natural disasters like flood and cyclone and the so-called ‘zero-causality’ and ‘every life is precious’ have proved to be a hoax. He presented detailed fact-finding reports of three teams of the party that visited various flood affected districts during the last four days and underscored how people were suffering and still marooned in flood waters. Harichandan claimed that despite death of six people, a huge loss of property and damage of crops, the State Government has remained as a mute spectator.

Whatever rescue and relief distribution is seen is from voluntary and charity organisations, not by the Government, he said. Even Health Department officials have not reached to the affected villages, he added. The BJP leader squarely blamed the Water Resources Department for the flood mess.
