State employees demand retirement age at 60

Coming down heavily on the State Government for not taking proactive measures to sort out the issues, including the demand of extension of retirement age to 60 years of its employees, the Odisha Karmachari Sangram Samiti on Sunday threatened to resort to agitation to press the demands.

“We have been demanding extension of the retirement age to 60 years since a long time, besides stopping of appointments on contract basis. Thousands of experienced employees are retiring each year as the Government has stopped recruiting permanent recruits. We demand that all new recruits be made permanent,” OKSS secretary general Upendra Pati told mediapersons here.

Stating that the State Government is not at all interested to come to discussion table with its employees, Pati said, “It is a matter of great concern that neither a Government employee nor any Government employees’ association is entertained by the Government to come to negotiation table for solution of their demands.”

Samiti president Ramesh Chandra Rout also warned the State Government against providing benefits selectively to certain sections of

employees.
