The State Government will soon to introduce a State Eligibility Test (SET) from next year for appointment of lecturers. The test is expected to ensure that only qualified teachers are appointed in colleges.
The Higher Education Department would soon seek permission of the University Grants Commission (UGC) to introduce the State Eligibility Test (SET), said sources, adding that after securing the UGC’s permission, the department would plan out the process.
The States of Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Maharashtra and West Bengal already have their SETs. When the UGC approves the Odisha Government’s proposal, the State Government would follow the same practice as per the UGC guidelines. It may be noted that recently the State Government has decided to appoint nearly 800 lectures in various Government colleges.
