'State can play major role in Make in India drive'

Industries Secretary Vishal Dev on Thursday said the State has the right combination of resources and environment to enable it to play a major role in the ‘Make in India’ campaign launched by Prime Minister  Narendra Modi and the State only has to put its act together to become the country’s major manufacturing hub.

He was speaking here at a seminar on the Make in India campaign organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) on the State Government’s Agenda on Improving the Manufacturing Climate in the State.Dev cited skill development, employment generation and development of the downstream sector as important issues that need to be successfully addressed.

On the policy of the Government in creating Industrial Estates to promote downstream industries, Dev said the policy needs to be reviewed as the capacity created in most of such estates is hardly being used. The way forward is to create a more involved and intense partnership among all stakeholders, he said.

The seminar also discussed other related issues that included measures required to provide impetus to manufacturing in the State, improve ease of doing business, making the State part of the industrial corridor, improving quality and steps to be taken to include domestic companies as parts of the global value chain.

The agenda for the meeting was set by Chairman of CII Odisha State Council Ansuman Das. Its Past Chairman Santosh K Mohapatra did the summing up of the deliberations.
