BJP legislature Party leader Basant Panda on Wednesday said the Pradhan Mantri Tri-Fasal Beema Yojana announced by the Centre would benefit both farmers and sharecroppers of the State who are facing wrath of drought, floods and cyclone frequently.
The Yojana approved by the Union Cabinet will be implemented from the coming Kharif season.
The most crucial element of the scheme is that it will bring down the rate of premium to be paid by farmers to 2 per cent of the sum insured for Kharif crops, 1.5 per cent premium for Rabi crops and 5 per cent for commercial crops.
“About 80 per cent of people in the State are dependent on agriculture to earn their livelihood. But every year they are suffering crop losses due to natural calamities. The Pradhan Mantri Tri-Fasal Yojna is a gift to the farmers from the NDA Government,” Panda said while addressing a Press conference here.
