Simi Karan from Odisha proved that experience is not a yardstick to achieve success. The 22-year-old girl has set a record by becoming the youngest rank holder from the State in the all-India Civil Services Examination-2019 conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) scoring the 31st rank in her first attempt.
Simi’s father, a resident of Santoshpur village under Jaleswar block of Baleswar district, works as a General Manager at the Bhilai Steel Plant while her mother is a teacher.
After completing her schooling from DPS, Bhilai, Simi pursued BTech in Electrical Engineering at IIT Mumbai and passed out in 2019.
Simi said that during the Civil Services interview, she was asked what kind of issues mostly companies face during mining at a place. She replied that companies must make locals or tribals of the place their stakeholders. The companies must think how locals are benefited with the change going to occur around them, she said.
