The Odisha Government is taking steps to introduce Entrepreneurship and Innovation Education in school, college and university syllabuses so that the students are introduced to the Startup environment.

The Government, which recently unveiled its Startup Policy-2016  to promote entrepreneurship, has decided to develop an Eco System for Startup education to help children and youths mould their minds in this regard.

The Government would introduce courses in Startup Education and Entrepreneurship, which the universities would be advised to include in the syllabus, said a senior official in the MSME Department.

And inputs in Entrepreneurship and Innovation would be introduced in school syllabus to give students an insight to the subject and help develop an aptitude for it. So, from the childhood, children would be inclined not to go for jobs but for entrepreneurship.

The Government would support the universities to train the faculty for promotion of Innovation and Entrepreneurship as per the existing policies and guidelines of the Higher Government Education Department and the universities.

A sabbatical scheme for college and university professors, who work along with students at an incubator, would be introduced to pursue entrepreneurship for a specified period, said sources.

In case any faculty decides to join a Startup approved by the Nodal Agency of the Government, he/she would be eligible for an extraordinary leave without payment for a maximum period of three years. This would provide cushioning for many faculties to join Startups, said an official.

School and college-level Startup development clubs, known as Boot Camps, would be established through incubators to foster innovation and entrepreneurial spirit at these institutions.

An International Startup Exchange Programme would be introduced to garner knowledge and experience from global startup destinations to enhance startup culture in the State, said he.

The Government would tie up with international organisations to send startups to leading global startup destinations for gaining international exposure.

Similarly, tie-ups would be made to bring world-class startups to work alongside startups in Odisha for faster learning and cultural exchange, said the official.
