Stalling Assembly: BJD loses; Congress gains

Published on:

Who actually gained over the stalemate of the State Assembly (OlA) for the first two consecutive daysIJ

Though it sounded strange, the ruling BJD members ensured that there was no transaction of business in the House on September 21 and 22 on the Mahanadi and Polavaram issues.

Was there any justification in disrupting the House for two long days over the issuesIJ Instead of discussing the issues in the House, the Treasury Bench preferred to stall the proceedings. Did the BJD really gain out of dramaIJ

In particular, the conduct of Chandbali MlA Byomakesh Ray, who is also the president of the Biju Chhatra Janata Dal, was a matter of shame for the BJD, for which party for the first time since its inception was forced to tender apology in the House over disrespect to the National Anthem.

In a simple analysis, the opposition Congress, which had given a notice for a discussion on the Mahanadi issue, rather gained politically from such unruly act of the Treasury Bench members.

leader of Opposition Narasingha Mishra of the Congress rightly targeted Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, who was present in the House when Ray conducted shamefully during the recital of the National Anthem.

Moreover, the Congress also got an opportunity to accuse the Patnaik Government of being an escapist by running away from democratic discussions on the burning issues concerning the State’s interests.

Finally, the BJD had to agree to discussion on Friday. But the ruling party owes an explanation to people for wasting public money by stalling the House for two days for no reason.

As for the BJP, the party seems worried after the BJD agreed for a discussion since it is likely to be targeted both by the BJD and the Congress during discussion on the Mahanadi issue because the Central Government and the Chhattisgarh Government are ruled by the saffron party.
