Ganjam Surada-based Rushikulya Cricket Club president Ephrem Behera has submitted a memorandum to the Block Divisional Officer demanding immediate renovation and reconstruction of the Sashi Bhusan Mini Stadium at Surada which is incomplete and lying defunct since last several years.
Though the villagers, local youths, sports lovers have already drawn the authorities’ attention for reconstruction of the stadium, but their demands remain unheeded by the district administration which is quite unfortunate, Behera said.
Keeping public perceptions and local demands in mind, the State Sports Department had released a grant of Rs 10 lakh in last July with an assurance to complete the incomplete work by the end of the financial year 2015-16 and it would be over by March this year, he informed.
The club also alleged that, the release of sanctioned amount along with all the required papers and other supporting documents are lying pending deliberately.
The club demanded for issue of work order for undertaking the construction work so as to complete the work by end of this FY, failing which the Club would gherao the BDO office and resort to agitation, the memorandum cautioned.
Prominent sports lovers and local intellectuals signed the memorandum.
