: Former Union Minister Srikant Jena expressing his heartfelt condolences for the tragic railway incident demanded establishment of a trauma centre at Bahanaga by the Railways.
“There is no railway trauma centre in Odisha, while one is at Kharagpur, the other at Waltair. In the stretch between Kharagpur and Waltair there should be at least one more centre and Bahanaga beside the NH is the most suitable venue. Had there been a trauma centre in Odisha, many lives could have been saved,” said Jena in Press brief on Monday adding, “The AIIMS unit which was planned for 500 bed service along with public health service during his tenure as an MP ,Baleswar, is now handicapped and its service is limited to OPD only. This is the sheer apathetic attitude of the Central Government.”
He further demanded a railway division at Baleswar.
Besides stating that to dispel the doubt from the mind of the general public regarding the death toll, the Railways should release a list containing the names and addresses etc.
On the recommendation of the CBI inquiry, he further said, “Once the Railway Minister said the glitch has been detected what is necessity for a CBI probe. However, it is their prerogative and they can do it but it shouldn't be an attempt to divert public attention from the core issues of lapses, failure and negligence etc.”
