A youth was shot dead in broad daylight by unidentified miscreants near Godisahi under the Barang police station on Sunday morning.
The deceased was identified as Sunil Ranjan Sahu who was working as a supervisor at the Sri Sri University situated at Naraj.
Though the exact motive behind the murder was yet to be ascertained, it could be the fallout of some past rivalry, informed Cuttack DCP Akhilesvar Singh, who rushed to the spot after the incident.
Sources said that two miscreants, who had come by a red colour Honda Activa opened three rounds of fire at Sahu from close range when he had gone to meet someone after getting a call in the morning.
Police suspected involvement of some “known persons” behind the murder as an altercation and then a scuffle broke out between them and Sahu over some issues which some locals have also corroborated.
Sahu sustained bullet injuries in his head, chest and hand and was rushed by locals to the SCB Medical College Hospital here but was declared brought dead by the doctors, police said.
Police said that the relatives of Sahu in Redhakhol in Sambalpur district were informed about the incident and after their arrival Sahu’s body would be handed over to them after the necessary formalities. A special squad of police was investigating into the leads of the case and the accused would be nabbed soon, police said.
The broad daylight murder has triggered shockwaves in the area and the locals have demanded that the police nab those involved soon
