The Commissionerate police on Tuesday busted an illegal country liquor manufacturing unit and arrested a person from the Santala slum under the Chandrasekharpur police station.
The action of the police came just a few days after a youth in the same locality died allegedly due to consumption of spurious liquor.
The police recovered about 70 litre of country liquor, seven bagfuls of mahula and two bag loads of sleeping tablets from the slum and arrested Pitambar Kisku.
Interestingly, the role of the local police has come under suspicion as the illegal activity was taking place just 500 meter from the Maitree Vihar police outpost.
Sources said Kisku used sell around 300-400 litre of country liquor daily.
Though the illegal liquor trade activity in the slum was rampant, no strict police action was ever noticed. Almost all the households in the slum are involved in the illegal business.
Meanwhile, sources said the Chandrasekharpur police have started investigation to nab others involved in the trade.
