In a shocking incident, a Reader of the Sambalpur University, Khagendra Seth, was arrested on Thursday on the charge of raping a minor girl. Before being arrested and forwarded to court, the senior teacher had been detained by the police on Wednesday following a complaint by the minor girl’s family.
The Reader, who teaches in the History Department of the university, allegedly found the minor daughter of his colleague university teacher alone at home when he had gone to his house in the university campus at Burla and raped her, police sources said.
Though the incident took place a few days back, it was reported to the police on Wednesday. Enraged students of the university on Thursday staged a demonstration, burnt the Khagendra Seth’s effigy and demanded stringent action against him.
