An aspirant for the post of lecturer in the department of the Environment Science in Sambalpur University has finally knocked the door of the Orissa High Court seeking justice.
The woman in question Dr Ranjita Panda filed a case in the High Court against the Vice Chancellor of the university and that has been accepted for hearing. She has alleged rampant corruption in the entire process of recruitment and the injustice done to the worthy candidates including her.
As per information, on May 25 last, there was an advertisement for appointment to the post of lecturer in the department of Environment Science of the university to which a good number of candidates responded. But after final scrutiny, 43 candidates were called for interview.
But the woman who filed the case in the court alleged among several worthier candidates, a candidate with a simple degree in life Science was selected and appointed.
“The candidates with M Sc and Ph D degree in the subject were ignored for the reason best known to the university authorities,” Dr Panda alleged. She further alleged that 10 candidates in the subject have not only M Sc and Ph D degrees but also they have qualified for national eligibility test (NET). But all their higher qualifications were ignored by the authorities, Dr Panda mentioned in her writ petition.
She further alleged that the candidate selected for the post has a degree in life Science though the vacancy was in Environment Science. Further, he works in the department of Zoology in Panchayat College at Bargarh. He didn’t take the permission from the Department of Higher Education to appear at the interview for the post. After being selected, he has also not availed the relief order from the Government.
When contacted Sambalpur University Registrar Meghanad Nayak said, “We have no role in the appointment. It is the selection committee which has final say on the matter.”
