lawyers of Sambalpur who went to Delhi for dharna at Jantar Mantar demanding a High Court Bench felt the pinch of negligence from the railways.
During the return journey in the Kalinga-Utkal Express, they found the journey to be the most unpleasant and unbearable since the compartments they were travelling in had no water and the condition of the toilets was deplorable.
Staff on duty, instead of several requests, took no action to mend the situation. Hence, at Katnai railway station, 150 lawyers of Sambalpur protested the negligence by halting the train. They also shouted slogans there against the apathetic attitude of the Railways. Co-passengers who were bearing the pain silently joined the protesters.
The railway officials on being informed rushed to the spot and requested the protestors and other passengers to withdraw the stir after immediately taking steps for cleaning of the toilets and making available the water. later, the stir was withdrawn and the train was allowed to move.
