S'pur jaundice situation improving: Officials

Sambalpur MP Nagendra Pradhan and Redhakhol MlA Rohit Pujari visited jaundice patients at the District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) here and the VSS Medical College Hospital at Burla on Sunday.

“I talked with patients in the two hospitals. Most of the patients said they suffered from jaundice due to contaminated drinking water. Now, the number of patients has declined as the PHED has taken sincere efforts to supply safe drinking water,” Pradhan said.

Pradhan said he would soon urge Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik to provide compensation to the families of those who died of jaundice here.  MlA Pujari said the system of drinking water supply and sanitation work in the Sambalpur Municipality was totally disrupted during the last few years. But things will be set right soon, he said.

Sambalpur MlA Dr Raseswari Panigrahi, who visits jaundice-affected wards every day, said, “The number of jaundice patients coming to hospitals for treatment has decreased.”

The Sambalpur CDMO said the situation has improved remarkably due to precautionary measures taken jointly by different departments. Doctors in the DHH are working hard to provide timely and accurate treatment to the patients, he said.

Sambalpur district Collector Balwant Singh said, “Jaundice situation has improved. People need to cooperate with different departments to get desired results.”
