Condemning the arrest of BlP women leaders Renubala Pradhan and Pushpanjali Jena for wielding swords during the Hanuman Jayanti on Wednesday, the BJP on Thursday said the Sambalpur police with vendetta and ill intention are unnecessarily troubling senior party leader and former Minister Jayanarayan Mishra.
In a statement, party State vice-president Sameer Mohanty said every citizen has the right to demonstrate his/her martial skills on various occasions. "Though the Government has the moral and constitutional responsibility to safeguard the tradition, the district administration has been misusing its power and troubling BJP workers in Sambalpur for the last two years, said Mohanty.
“After arrest of former Municipality Chairman Girish Patel and other leaders, the police arrested two women activists. Moreover, they are yet to inform the family members of the two women about their whereabouts. This is disgraceful and shows that the district police are conspiring to make communal division during religious events,” he alleged.
