Akhaya Kumar Sahoo, Assistant Agriculture Engineer in the office of the Executive Engineer (Agriculture), Northern Zone, Remed, Sambalpur, was arrested and forward to court for demanding and accepting bribe on Sunday. He was remanded to judicial custody till January 15.
The case was registered against him on a report of Sudam Sahoo, an officer-bearer of NGO Abhyudaya for demand of bribe of Rs70,000 for release of a cheque towards NGO payment relating to mechanised line transplanting of paddy of Kharif-2014 in Bargarh district.
During investigation, as per Akhaya Sahoo’s demand and instructions, part payment of Rs50,000 was deposited by Sudam Sahoo in the SBI account of Akhaya Sahoo through two deposit slips.Vigilance police laid a trap on Friday. Akhaya Sahoo directed Sudam Sahoo to pay the rest demanded bribe of Rs20,000 at the Hirakud railway platform. Akhaya Sahoo was caught red-handed while accepting the bribe.
