The Senior Citizens’ Manch of Gosaninugaon in Brahmapur held a meeting on Sunday and demanded that the East Coast Railway take immediate steps to open a special ticket booking counter at the Brahmapur railway station exclusively for senior citizens.

The Manch pointed out that the railway station’s ticket counters are always crowded and it is difficult for senior citizens to stand in queue for hours. The Manch urged the Ministry of Railway to send a circular to all the railway stations in the State for provision of exclusive ticket counter for senior citizens.

The forum also demanded that similar special counters be opened exclusively for senior citizens in all the institutions providing public services including banks and hospitals.

The Manch members along with those of the Gosaninuagaon Yuva Parishad held a tree plantation programme in the town which local MlA Dr Ramesh Chandra Chyau Pattnaik and BDA Chairman Subash Chandra Moharana attended. Among others, Manch president Kishore Chandra Adhikari and general secretary Raghunath Choudhury were present. The railway stations in the State witness heavy crowds due to which the old age people find it very difficult to book tickets.
