No newspaper gets popularity on the basis of its circulation. But a paper gets recognition if it continues to uphold the very essence of journalism and media ethics, opined noted speakers here on Wednesday on the occasion of 5th annual day of Odia daily Shruti.

Attending as chief speaker, Health and Family Welfare and Information and Public Relations Minister Atanu Sabyasachi Nayak said Shruti has successfully completed five years of its journey in the field of journalism and achieved a special place among dailies.

He too opined that the position of newspapers is very dismal in those countries where there is massive spread of IT and people have accustomed to internet use. “People, after going through e-papers in the internet, are turning face from other forms of Media. However, the Print Media has still upheld its core values,” the Minister opined.

He informed that the State Government would soon adopt a special policy for development of medium circulation newspapers like Shruti. Former Chief Secretary Sudhansu Bhushan Mishra and former working editor of Samaja Dr Pramod Mohapatra opined that no country or territory can be developed without involvement of the Media and hence, newspapers should play positive roles in this respect.

On this occasion, eminent litterateur Rahas Ray, noted cine personality Dr Gobinda Chandra Tej and senior journalist Prabhu Kalyan Mohapatra were conferred with the Shruti Samman-2015.

Shruti editor Sarbeshwar Mishra and executive editor Kishore Chandra Gadatia were present.
