The Odisha Domestic labour Mahasangha on Sunday demanded that the State Government form a special board soon for the maids working in individual households across the State.

“The problems of domestic women labourers are gradually increasing in the State. They are being paid a paltry amount of Rs 500 or Rs 1,000 per month even though they execute major household works. Besides, they are being tortured physically and mentally,” Mahasangha president Pratap Kumar Sahu lamented in a Press release and demanded that a special board be formed in line with Mumbai to resolve their problems.

Sahu along with vice-president Minirani Singh and secretary Swayamprava Sahu also demanded that the domestic women labourers be provided identity cards, land measuring 30X30 sq feet area in every city, pension, BPl card, health insurance and IAY houses. Besides, they demanded that their monthly salary be fixed and strong action against low salary payment and torture.

They also threatened that thousands of women labourers would gherao Naveen Nivas if the Government doesn’t form a board for them soon.
