A major mishap was averted when a spirit-laden tanker overturned midway at Gobara under the Gangpur police limits here in Ganjam district late on Friday night. Tanker driver Rohit Kumar Rout was injured in the incident.The tanker was en route to the Sugar Industry in Aska from Boudh district. At Gobara, the driver lost control over the heavy vehicle when a car suddenly came in front of the tanker, following which the tanker overturned on the road.
Following the incident, the spirit was spilled on the road. Police prohibited commuters off road fearing a major mishap due to spillover of the highly inflammable item. Hundreds of vehicles were stranded on the road on Saturday morning. The tanker was lifted with help of a crane and cleaning work on road was underway by Fire Services personnel.
