The State Government has made speed limit device mandatory for commercial and private vehicles, including buses and trucks, to minimise the number of road mishaps. The Commerce and Transport Department has recently issued a notification to this effect, sources said. The vehicle owners have been asked to install the device by July 31.
According to the notification, the vehicles such as buses and trucks and mini buses need to have speed governors to limit their speed to 80 km per hour, while the speed limiters in school buses would set a maximum speed of 60 km per hour.
After the Union Transport and Highways Ministry asked the State Government to ensure installation of speed governors in vehicles, the Department sent a proposal to the State Government for its approval in February.
