The Samajwadi Party on Monday condemned the beheading of a statue of Mahatma Gandhi on the premises of the Badaghumuri Primary School at Badchana block in Jajpur district by some miscreants.
In a letter to Governor SC Jamir, party State president Rabi Behera said while Gandhiji’s birthday is observed as International Nonviolence Day worldwide, beheading of his statue is a matter of shame for the entire nation.
“Though the matter has been brought to the notice of the school headmistress, political leaders, the district administration, the SP and the Badchana IIC, neither the culprits are arrested nor any step has been taken on the matter yet,” lamented Behera.
The party chief demanded the Governor’s intervention in the matter and immediate stern action against the persons to be found guilty and reinstallation of Gandhiji’s statue on the school premises.
