The Samajwadi Party on Friday demanded that the Government give Rs 10 lakh and a house under the Biju Pucca Ghar Yojana to Dana Majhi, who carried his wife's body on his shoulder for 12 km from the District Headquarters Hospital at Bhawanipatna to his village after being denied an ambulance two days ago.
"The incident is a matter of same for our civil society as the dead man's dignity and respectful ritual is a universal declaration followed in every country," said party State president Rabi Behera while making the demands.
The party organised a demonstration here against the injustice done to Dana Majhi.
Behera too demanded suspension of the Kalahandi CDMO and Sub-Collector Sukanta Tripathy as they allegedly tried to cover up the negligence of the medical staffs.
The party urged the Chief Minister to take stringent action in the matter and ensure that such incidents don't recur.
Among others, Sudarshan Pradhan, Nirupama Das, Sabitri Behera, Binapani Das and youth leaders Pradeep Mishra, Arun Jena, Deepdas Yadav and Bijay Behera
participated in the demonstration.
