The Odisha unit of the Samajwadi Party urged the Union Food and Consumer Affairs Minister for a CBI inquiry into the irregularities in paddy purchase and milling under PDS from 2009 to 2014 in various States including Odisha.
A report of the CAG presented in the Parliament on December 8 pegs the paddy purchase and milling scam at around Rs 40,000 crore, said party State president Rabi Behera in a letter to the Union Minister.
Besides, millers were paid in excess to the tune of Rs 3.74 crore. The report also said that farmers were paid Minimum Support Price (MSP) of Rs 18,000 crore which has no receipts, Behera said.
The millers, FCI officials and the State Government employees must be taken to task for an unholy alliance as they plundered the public wealth when farmers in the country are committing suicide due to crop loss, Behera demanded.
