The Samajwadi Party (SP) on Friday urged the State Government to provide a financial compensation of Rs 10,000 to farmers who have lost their crops in the rains.
“The rain caused due to low pressure has created a formidable situation for the coming kharif crop and also affected the summer vegetable crops at many places across the State. Tonnes of paddy lying under the open sky in various market yards have also been destroyed,” said SP State president Rabi Behera.
Behera also demanded that the Civil and Supply Department be directed to purchase all harvested paddy soaked with rainwater.
