A delegation from South Africa (SA) led by their High Commissioner France Morule invited members of the Utkal Chamber of Commerce and Industry (UCCI) here on Thursday to invest in South Africa.
Morule was accompanied by Stefanus Botes, Minister Counsellor (Economic), who made a brief presentation to highlight the reasons and advantages of investing in SA, which is also a member of the BRICS group like India. SA’s Senior Economic Advisor SC Pradhan, and Counsellor (Political) S Pillay were also present.
The presentation elicited many questions which included one regarding the fate of the joint venture of Tata with Sasol of SA in the backdrop of the Government’s initiative to make it easier to do business in India. Sasol had indicated its reluctance to go ahead with the proposed coal-to-liquid project in the State in view of the uncertainties associated with permissions.
The welcome speech was given by UCCI president Ramesh Mahapatra while a vote of thanks was given by its secretary Debabrata Dash.
