Political liberty has no value if financial stress of millions of poor people is not sorted out,” stated Dr Chandrabhanu Satpathy while releasing a book titled History of Kandhamal by former bureaucrat Uma Charan Nayak at a function here on Thursday.Satapathy said Nayak has gone to the grassroots and understood the difficulties of the local tribals of Kandhamal and has tried to highlight them. He opined that the Government should take steps to eradicate the problems faced by the tribals in their socio-economic and religious life.
Former Supreme Court Judge Arijit Pasayat presiding over the function lamented that the underprivileged tribal people of the poverty stricken Kandhamal are yet to get two square meals a day. When they are struggling for livelihood, how they can know how to live with dignity, he asked. He advised that efforts should be made to bring to the fore the plight of the people under BPl, find out the reasons behind the chronic poverty and take measures to end the misery.
Earlier writer Nayak welcomed the guests and others in the function and spoke about the main thrust areas of his book. Satya Khadgaray introduced the guests while Charudutta Panigrahi gave a vote of thanks.
