A standard operating procedure (SOP) to combat gender-based violence in the State was approved on Saturday. This would be sent to the State Government for its approval. Transgenders are also included while specific provisions have been laid down in it for addressing the child victims in the State.

The adoption of the SOP was approved at a ‘Meeting on SOP on addressing Gender-Based Violence in the State’ chaired by Development Commissioner R Balakrishnan.

The SOP was prepared on the recommendations of the Justice PK Mohanty Commission formed to probe the sensational Pipili gangrape and murder case.

“SOP is originally charted out by the Health Department. Feedbacks of other departments have also been inculcated. Recently, the State Government has also received the Justice Mohanty Committee report. It has also been incorporated,” said Health Secretary Arti Ahuja.

“The SOP was approved today. Now we’ll send it for Government’s approval. After getting the seal of approval the SOP will be issued accordingly,” added Ahuja.

Ahuja said the SOP guides on how post medical care of those who are gender-based violence victims and survivors should be taken after being discharged from hospital.
