Raja Shree Mohanty, the only son of Raghunath Mohanty, BJD stalwart has brought about his father’s shameful resignation ruining his long unblemished political career.
One of the closet colleagues of Naveen Patnaik, the former Minister is now incommunicado as he is facing huge embarrassment. Raja Shree was considered as the political heir to his father, who is known as a suave and nice political personality. But his alleged mistreatment of his wife Barsasoni has led her to file a police case against him and his parents, upsetting the Mohanty family’s political moves in Baleswar district.
Close behind Mohanty is Minister of Higher Education Badri Narayan Patra, who is facing a tough time for the alleged role of one of his sons in the Plus II exam paper leaks. The son is also perceived as the political heir. Cong leaders are up in arms against Patra, demanding his resignation. But Patra still survives in Ministry as he is a pillar of strength for the BJD in Keonjhar district, also the home turf of State Congress president Niranjan Patnaik, feel political observers. Another BJD high profile victim for his son’s alleged wrongdoing is former Finance Minister Prafulla Chandra Ghadai. He made his son Priti Ranjan Ghadai an MlA in the last elections and now finds that he is paying price for it. Political circles feel Priti Ranjan’s earlier proximity to expelled BJD Rajya Sabha member Pyarimohan Mohapatra caused suspicion in Naveen Patnaik’s mind for which Prafulla Ghadai was axed from the Cabinet.
To make the matter worse, last year’s attack on Hissain Rabi Gandhi, though a lightweight in the BJD, allegedly at the instance of Priti Ranjan added to the problem for senior Ghadai.While political heavyweights are facing tough time due the “sins of their sons”, ex-DGP-rank officer Bidya Bhusan Mohanti also had to sacrifice his career and reputation by trying to come to the rescue of his only son Bittihotra Mohanti, who has been convicted by a Rajasthan court for rape of a German girl.
