Sonepur-B’ngir road: Robbers active, cops dormant

Published on:

Rising incidents of extortion, snatching and robbery have become a cause of concern in neighbouring Subarnapur and Balangir districts even as the Puintala police under Balangir district have utterly failed to tackle crime in the Bairasar region, which is just 1 km from Tarbha town under Subarnapur district.

On Wednesday afternoon around 3 pm, three miscreants robbed an employee of a finance bank of Rs 1,24, 890. The victim was just going to his bank after collecting the cash from members, when the crime took place.

As per reports, the robbers came in a red colour bike and started beating the employee and before he could know why he was being targeted, the miscreant broke his dicky and fled with the cash. The incident took place on NH-57 (Sonepur-Balangir road) near Bhadra Pali chowk.

Though police have got a complaint in the case, no one has been arrested so far. Previously also many robberies occurred in the road.

Even as Puintala police claim to have initiated steps to check crimes on the Bairasar road, it does not seem anything is happening. Cases of people being waylaid and robbed of cash and valuables and snatching of mobile phones and gold chains have almost become an everyday affair in the Bairasar area.

Locals have demanded regular patrolling in the area after 10 pm and strict action against the anti socials.
