Noted singer Sohini Mishra of Indian Idol fame released her debut solo album of Indi Pop songs named “love Rainbow” here recently. Minister Arun Kumar Sahoo released the album at a function in the presence of many other eminent persons.

The album has eight Hindi romantic songs penned by Mohan Majithia and composed by Om Prakash Mohanty. The songs are Nazar tujhse jo mili, Mausam suhana hai, Nila nila ye asman, Jawani jawani, Aie mere dil ki tanhayee, Sainyaan gaye jo pardes, O ore chanda and Chhun lene do asman ko.

Sohini’s solo album of Hindi songs is the first of its kind to be released from Odisha. It took her more than two years to conceive the album. A classically-trained singer, she has tried her best to adapt to the style of music prevalent in Bollywood these days. The songs are set to Western beats, and she has made a remarkable attempt to give full and ample justice to the peppy compositions. She hopes to carve a niche in the Hindi film industry through this album.

Sohini came to limelight through Sony TV’s reality show Indian Idol 6 (2012). She was one of the top six contestants. An approved artist (B High Grade) of AIR, Cuttack, she received training in Hindustani classical vocal music under the tutelage of Pandit Devendra Narayan Satapathy. Her forte is classical music though she can sing all kinds of songs.

Sohini, an MSc in Biotechnology from the Ravenshaw University, hails from a musical background. Both her father and mother are approved artists of AIR, Cuttack. She has lent her voice to many Odia films and modern albums. She has won several prestigious awards in the Best Playback Singer category. She also performs widely on the stage in India and abroad. Sohini has started working on two more solo albums of Odia and Bengali modern songs, which are expected to be released next year.
