Sohini appears before CBI for 2nd time

Sohini Pal, daughter of arrested Trinamool Congress MP and Bengali film actor Tapas Pal, appeared before the CBI here again on Tuesday in connection with the Rose Valley Group chit fund scam.

Sohini appeared before the Central investigating agency for the second time. Earlier on Monday, she had appeared before the CBI, which wanted some documents and clarifications relating to the scam committed by the Rose Valley.

Sources said the CBI quizzed Sohini on the designation she held at the Rose Valley Group and the monetary transactions by her during her tenure in the company.

On the other hand, after the completion of the three-day remand of MP Tapas Pal, the CBI produced him before a court here and sought a four-day fresh remand. The court allowed the agency for a three-day remand period of the lawmaker.

During his remand, the MP blamed singer and Union Minister Babul Supriyo for his arrest, triggering threats of legal action from the latter. He alleged that Supriyo and some other politicians are involved in the Rose Valley scam.

Meanwhile, the CBI arrested another TMC MP, Sudip Bandopadhaya, for his alleged complicity with the Rose Valley company in Kolkata. He is being brought to Bhubaneswar for interrogation.

Notably, during interrogation, Tapas Paul revealed the name of Bandopadhaya. A five-member CBI team left for Kolkata and arrested him.

Tapas Pal while working as a director at the Rose Valley Group had given appointments to his wife, daughter and niece in different positions in the company. Notably, Tapas Pal was arrested from Kolkata by the CBI on December 30. He was brought to Bhubaneswar by the CBI on December 31.
