SOA students to join Int'l Go-Kart tourney

A 20-member team of automobile enthusiasts in the SOA University, which has developed a Go-Kart with a maximum speed of 60 km per hour, will be participating in the International Go-Kart Championship to be held at Jalandhar from March 24 to 26 next.

The team, comprising students of the Institute of Technical Education and Research (ITER), faculty of engineering and technology of the SOA University, has designed, analysed and manufactured the vehicle with a 127cc ‘Briggs and Stratton’ engine with a hydraulic breaking system.

The students run a Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) India collegiate club in the ITER with over 450 members which have been functioning since 2011.

“It’s an awesome feeling. I think the biggest dream of a mechanical engineer is to make a car of their own and after putting together this Go-Kart, we feel our dream has been fulfilled,” said student coordinator Asheem Sahu.

The students said they had received financial help from the university and some other sponsors including Allahabad Bank, Tristar Motors, lexus Motors, Grand Awaas Developers, Twintech and Engineering and Design Technology to develop the vehicle. The International Go-Kart Championship is scheduled to be held at the lovely Professional University at Jalandhar.
