In yet an incident of lawlessness in the Smart City and the indifferent attitude of the Commissionerate police, the Samaja relief team was harassed by a single motorcycle-borne goon on Saturday night. Even after approaching the Khandagiri cops, instead of getting help the team members were left to fend for themselves.
An antisocial stopped the relief team near the Khandagiri police station at late night while they were distributing blanket to the street dwellers. The miscreant followed the team from CRPF Square and continued to inform someone about the team’s movement over the cell phone, alleged a team member.
Suddenly, he asked the team to stop the vehicle. When they didn’t, he abused the four team members in filthy language. When they tried to escape from the spot, he chased and intercepted their vehicle by keeping his bike (Splendor Plus -OR 02 BV 8510) on the middle of the road. It was a tough time for the team members escaping from his clutches, while other vehicles stopped behind them but remained silent spectators. The goons even had the audacity to call them to the police station, the team member alleged.
Amid the ordeal and harassment by the anti- social several times, the relief team managed to reach the Khandagiri police station. Even outside the police station the anti- social threatened them. When an ASI came out he vanished from the spot
Surprisingly, the ASI instead of rushing to nab the culprit started questioning the relief team members what they are doing at this late hour. The team members alleged that the police did not take any step and instead engaged themselves in watching television. The team then left for Cuttack around 2.30 am. Meanwhile, the team has lodged a complaint, but any action is yet to be initiated.
