Bhasa Suraksha Sammilani president Baishanb Parida has urged all Ministers and MlAs to take a concerted effort for the proper execution of the language Act 1954.
In a letter, Parida has requested the Ministers and MlAs to raise the issue of slipshod implementation of the Act in the ongoing Assembly session and demand proper implementation and monitoring of the law by setting up the Odia language Commission.
Parida decried that though the State Government implemented the language Act for official use of Odia in Government and private organisations, courts and business establishments, but due to lack of monitoring, the official correspondences from the Secretariat to the block level are still made in English.
He said that the name plates in many offices and institutions have not been written in Odia while Odia is not still used in the works in courts. Parida lamented that the hope of the people of Odisha in the last 62 years has been belied because of the slipshod implementation of the Act.
He apprehended that simply assigning the bureaucracy with the task of implementing the law would not yield the desired results.
