City DCP Umashankar Dash said the skeleton was discovered from a vehicle seized by the Ganjam police in connection with a ganja smuggling case in 2019.
“When the Ganjam police came to release the vehicle in February, the skeleton was found in the vehicle abandoned on the outpost premises following which we called up a scientific team for examination. The skeleton was sent to the AIIMS Bhubaneswar for postmortem,” the DCP said.
The scientific examination revealed that the skeleton was of a 45-year woman and she had died naturally. The cause of death was stated to be TB
She somehow got stuck in the vehicle and died naturally. We are trying to ascertain identity of the deceased person,” the DCP added.
The disciplinary action was taken on the grounds that he was unaware of the incident, which occurred on the outpost premises.
Even after clarification by the DCP in the incident, the mystery still shrouds the case why the police had kept the case under wraps till now.
