SJTA seeks written promise from ASI, says Jagamohan

Published on:

Even as the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) claiming that the Jagamohan, a hall facing the sanctum sanctorum of the lord Jagannath Temple, is safe and visitors can have close darshan of the deities from Jagamohan, the Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) sought a written assurance from the former in this regard.

“Necessary repair has been done to the Jagamohan. The repair works of the crack on the beams and pillars have been completed. There is no threat now,” said ASI (Monument) Superintendent AK Patel.

Meanwhile, stating that major repairs are yet to be taken place, SJTA Chief Administrator Suresh Chandra Mohapatra said they (ASI) must assure us in writing that the Jagamohan is safe.

“Many major repairs are yet to be done. Necessary repair of the pockets of the Jagamohan have not conducted. However, we want a written assurance from them (ASI) that the structure is safe. After that we will decide whether to allow devotees to the Jagamohan or not from the safety point of view,” said Mohapatra.
