Six months on, police yet to act on rape victim's plaint

RTI activist Jayanta Kumar Das on Saturday sought intervention of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik in a case where an appeal of a rape victim has not been responded to by police even after passing of six months.

“A rape victim had sent her complaint to DCP, Bhubaneswar on September 23, 2015, which was received by the latter on September 28. The DCP sent the complaint to Sahid Nagar police Station IIC on the next day asking for an inquiry. However, the said IIC returned it to the DCP office citing the place of incident was not under his Jurisdiction. Then the DCP sent the complaint to the ACP Zone-1 AK Panda on October 8. However, the ACP office is yet to give any response to the victim,” Das stated in a letter to the CM quoting an RTI reply.

Pointing out that the police have violated a Supreme Court direction, Das urged the Chief Minister to ask the DCP to register an FIR against accused persons, who are very influential of Cuttack and Bhubaneswar, and give justice to the victim who belongs to the Scheduled Caste community.
