The District Project Coordinator (DPC) of the SSA has filed FIRs against six headmasters at different police stations in Kendrapada district on charges of embezzling funds meant for construction of toilets, informed District Education Officer Sangram Sahu.
According to Sahu, toilets have either not been built or partially constructed in the six concerned primary schools though funds had been handed over to them long back under the Sarva Siksha Abhiyan.
“The headmasters have failed to submit utilisation certificates against their respective toilet works. It was unearthed during an inquiry conducted by the SSA officials. Basing on the inquiry reports, the Vigilance Monitoring Committee unanimously decided to lodge complaints against the errant headmasters before March 17 and take action against them,” informed Sahu.
Accordingly, the DPC lodged complaints against the headmasters in their respective police stations.
Though funds had been allotted for construction of 413 toilets in primary schools in the district this year, only 261 of them have been completed so far, said Sahu.
