Police arrested and court-forwarded six people on Saturday for hurling bomb at the residence of Congress leader Sricharan Rout at Salijanga village in Jagatsinghpur district on June 29.
The arrested were identified as Sukanta Rout and his driver Babuli Chaudhury from Mugai village under Naugaon block, Satish Kumar Biswal and Tapana Gochhayat from Sikharapur in Cuttack district and Amulya Das and Sunil Ray from Palli village, seven kilometer from here. All of them were remanded into jail custody as their bail pleas were rejected by the court.
Notably, some miscreants had hurled bombs at Rout’s house on June 29, though no damage was caused in the incident. Police suspect that the accused had tried to extort money from Rout’s brother Karunakar, a special class contractor. When the latter refused to give money, they did offence.
